  • Keep clients informed, prepare litigation filings and demands, and research legal questions to shape case strategy
  • Take or defend depositions as your experience permits, and represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement talks
  • Negotiate with insurers and defense lawyers while coordinating with adjusters, engineers, experts, and other claim professionals
  • Track case documents, deadlines, and client updates while taking on more responsibility with attorneys and litigation staff

What you bring

  • About two or more years handling substantive civil litigation matters
  • Practical litigation work involving pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions, negotiations, or comparable tasks
  • Strong legal analysis and writing, clear client communication, and the ability to handle competing deadlines independently

Who this fits

This role suits a civil litigator seeking greater ownership of plaintiff-side insurance cases, including attorneys moving from defense practice. The work is fully remote, with Greenville preferred and other locations considered for attorneys licensed in South Carolina. You’ll build insurance litigation expertise and increase your case responsibility over time.

From the employer

  • Plaintiff Insurance Attorney

A fast-growing plaintiff-side litigation firm representing property owners in insurance disputes is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its South Carolina practice. This fully remote role is ideal for a litigation attorney who wants more case ownership, less emphasis on traditional billable-hour culture, and meaningful upside tied to the value of the cases they handle.

What You'll Do as the Associate Attorney:

  • Manage first-party property insurance matters from pre-suit through litigation and resolution
  • Evaluate incoming claims and help determine case viability, strategy, and value
  • Communicate directly with clients throughout the life of each matter
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, demands, and other litigation documents
  • Conduct legal research and help develop case strategy
  • Take and defend depositions as experience allows
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and settlement negotiations
  • Negotiate with insurance carriers and defense counsel
  • Work with adjusters, engineers, experts, and other professionals involved in property claims
  • Maintain organized case files, deadlines, and client communications in a remote environment
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys, paralegals, and litigation support staff
  • Build deeper expertise in plaintiff-side insurance litigation while taking on increasing case responsibility

Must-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active South Carolina Bar license in good standing
  • Approximately 2+ years of substantive civil litigation experience
  • Hands-on experience with pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions, negotiations, or similar litigation work
  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently manage deadlines and competing priorities
  • Strong client communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a fully remote, technology-forward practice
  • Interest in developing deeper expertise in insurance litigation

Nice-to-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

  • Insurance defense experience
  • First-party property insurance experience
  • Broader insurance litigation or coverage experience
  • Familiarity with how carriers evaluate, defend, and resolve claims
  • Experience with hail, wind, hurricane, fire, water, or other property-loss matters
  • Federal court experience
  • Deposition experience
  • Mediation experience
  • Bad-faith litigation exposure
  • Clio experience
  • Additional state bar admissions
  • Existing referral relationships or interest in developing business

This Role Offers:

  • Base salary of $90,000-$110,000
  • 5% commission on net legal fees generated from matters handled by the attorney
  • 15% origination credit on net legal fees from matters personally originated or referred to the firm
  • Fully remote work
  • Greenville, SC is preferred, but qualified South Carolina-barred attorneys may be considered from other locations
  • Health insurance with the firm covering 75% of the employee premium
  • 401(k) with a 3% employer match
  • Meaningful earning upside tied to both case results and business generation
  • Opportunity to transition from defense-side practice into plaintiff-side litigation
  • Training and support to build first-party property insurance expertise
  • Opportunity to take on greater responsibility as the practice expands
