What you'll do
- Design and automate distributed systems at scale, then build tooling to improve availability, scalability, latency and efficiency
- Work with engineering teams to deliver reliable software and monitor production and development environments for emerging issues
- Use monitoring findings to put preventive safeguards in place and improve the customer experience
- Coordinate software improvements with delivery teams to raise availability and reduce time to detect problems
- Take part in an on-call rota covering eight-hour shifts, seven days a week, every three to four weeks
What you bring
- At least seven years working with public cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS
- At least seven years in private cloud, Linux and networking, including platforms such as OpenStack or VMware ESXi
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes-based container operations, CI/CD, Terraform, scripting and Ansible
- Experience with observability platforms, incident response, SRE practices and designing distributed systems at scale
- A computer science degree or equivalent practical experience

We are actively seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Product Engineering Core DevOps team. At Five9, we work in small teams and move fast to drive our products and business to the next level. We look for crucial skills in team members such as a problem-solving mindset and intellectual curiosity, along with comfortable integration into a deeply collaborative system that rewards impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implementation, and automation of large-scale distributed systems.
- Build tools and automation that help Five9 achieve higher availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency.
- Work with Engineering teams to deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor production and development environments to build preventive measures and provide a seamless customer experience.
- Work with delivery teams on software improvements to achieve higher availability and lower MTTD.
- Participate in on-call rotation (8h shift, 7days a week, every 3-4 weeks).
Key Requirements:
- 7+ years of public cloud experience (GCP or AWS).
- 7+ years of private cloud experience (Openstack, VMware ESXi).
- 7+ years of Linux experience (Centos/Ubuntu).
- 7+ years of networking experience.
- Orchestration and management of containers using Kubernetes, Helm, GKE and Docker.
- Experience with Gitlab, ArgoCD, CI/CD methodologies & tools.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Python or other scripting languages.
- Experience with Ansible config management tool.
- Experience with Prometheus/Loki/Alertmanager/Grafana observability tools.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Experience with Incident Management Process, SRE best practices and continuous improvements.
- Experience designing large scale distributed systems.
- Familiar with DevOps/DevSecOps methodologies and best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
